Game 1 of the American League Championship Seriesbetween theHouston Astrosand theNew York Yankeesis underway at Minute Maid Park. The 2019 ALCS is a rematch of the 2017 series, which Houston won in seven games. The Astros sent right-handerZack Greinketo the mound andMasahiro Tanakagot the nod for the Yankees.
First pitch came shortly after 8 p.m. ET, and both Greinke and Tanaka traded zeroes in the early going. The Yankees struck for the game's first run in the fourth inning. DJ LeMahieu opened the frame with a single, then scored on a Gleyber Torres double, giving New York a 1-0 lead. Torres later hit a solo home run in the sixth to expand New York's lead to 2-0 before Giancarlo Stanton hit his own solo homer in the inning, making it 3-0. Torres would later increase the Yankees' lead to 5-0 with a bloopsingle with the bases loaded in the seventh.
