What to know about UC Irvine, Oregon's 2nd round opponent in NCAA Tournament

 Oregon will continues play in the NCAA Tournament against No. 13 seed UC Irvine.

When the No. 12 seed Ducks (24-12) return to the floor at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. on Sunday (approx. 6:40 p.m. PT, TBS), they'll be going up against the Anteaters, who have won 17 straight.

Oregon is a 5-point underdog.

Here's what you need to know about the Anteaters ahead of the second round of the NCAA Tournament:

Leader: Max Hazzard

Leader: Max Hazzard

Hazzard leads the Anteaters in scoring (12.7 ppg.) and is third on the team in assists.

He's also their most prolific and second-best three-point shooter (39.7 percent).

Hazzard had 19 points against Kansas State with all five of his made field goals coming from three-point range.

Evan Leonard is just behind with 11.3 ppg. and shoots 41.2 percent from three-point range.

Three-time Big West defensive player of the year Jonathan Galloway averages 7.8 rebounds per game and is UCI's career leader in rebounds.

  • UCI is making its second NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • The Anteaters went 13-2 on the road, tied for most in the NCAA, including 8-0 in the Big West
  • UCI is 14-0 and has won 25 straight when holding teams to 60 or less
  • Four Anteaters are from NBA families including Spencer Rivers (son of Doc Rivers), Hazzard (grandson of Walt Hazzard), JC Butler (son of Caron Butler) and Collin Welp (son of Christian Welp).

UC Irvine's opening win of the NCAA Tournament was its best of the season, on paper. Beating the Wildcats narrowly topped a road win at St. Mary's back in November.

Worst win: 86-68 vs. Idaho

The Anteaters beat the Vandals (NET 338) in a home non-conference game. It was one of seven games UC Irvine played against teams ranked 300+ in NET.

Worst loss: 80-70 vs. Long Beach State

UC Irvine split its season series with Long Beach State (NET 234), with the road team taking both games. The Anteaters also won in the conference tournament.
