U.S. stock index futures gave up early-session gains and retreated late Monday, following a rally on Wall Street stoked by hope that the coronavirus pandemic may stabilize soon. As of 10:30 p.m. Eastern, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures YM00, +2.29% were up down 100 points, or 0.4%, after rising more than 200 points earlier. S&P 500 futures ES00, +2.18% and Nasdaq-100 futures NQ00, +1.65% fell as well, also giving up slight early gains. Earlier, U.S. stocks soared more than 7%, with the Dow DJIA, +1.78% closing up more than 1,600 points. Investors were heartened by reports that deaths showed signs of flattening in New York City, which has been hit hardest by the COVID-19 outbreak.
