Thunderstorm warning issued as heavy rain lashes parts of UAE

Heavy showers have lashed parts of Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday evening.
Police sources told Khaleej Times that none of these emirates' roads have been closed due to the rains. "Many roads have been filled with accumulated water."
The RAK police have urged all drivers to be careful on the wet and flooded roads. "Drivers need to reduce speed, observe due safety distance and avoid the valleys and mountainous areas due to the unstable weather conditions."
They added that the Rams traffic signals and those on the Gulf Markets Intersection have stopped working.
Ahmed Al Shehi, an adviser to the department of public works, said they are 100 per cent geared up to attend to all emergency cases across the emirate.
"The department has deployed all water tankers and pumping machines to drain the accumulated water, particularly at low areas and on public roads, to ensure traffic flow."
So far, no falling rocks, uprooted trees, or blocked roads have been reported, he added.
He warned residents to stay indoors as the unstable weather conditions present multiple hazards. "It is risky to go out or drive under the heavy showers and thunderstorm."
