People will start recognizing that Selena Gomez is “Rare.”
The singer, 27, permanently cemented her latest album on her body with a tattoo of the title track from her first release in four years.
“Did it again,” Gomez captioned a photo and video of the tattoo the word “Rare” on her neck underneath her ear in the same handwriting as the album cover art and tagged go-to celebrity tattoo artist Bang Bang.
The song includes lyrics that presumably about ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, as well as Gomez’s new outlook on love: “It feels like you don’t care / Why don’t you recognize I’m so rare? / Always there / You don’t do the same for me, that’s not fair,” she sings in the chorus. “I don’t have it all / I’m not claiming to / But I know that Im special (So special), yeah / And Ill bet there’s somebody else out there / To tell me Im rare / To make me feel rare.”
Selena has been racking up the ink lately; she had the same artist tattoo a huge pair of praying hands on her upper thigh before the American Music Awards in November and got a tiny arrow on her thumb to match frequent collaborator Julia Michaels. In the music video for “Rare,” Gomez revealed a third new design on the back of her arm: the date that she had a kidney transplant in 2018.
Gomez’s new above-neck scrawl is part of a larger trend of celebrity ink placement that includes Demi Lovato, Sofia Richie, Rihanna, Halsey and more.
