Man charged over teen’s crash death

A 19-YEAR-OLD man allegedly behind the wheel when a vehicle ploughed into pedestrians near Esperance, killing one, has been charged by police.

Kaitlyn Scott, 16, was critically injured when a white Holden utility allegedly struck her and two others as they walked along Davis Road in Monjingup near Esperance at 1.30am on Saturday.

She was taken to Esperance Regional Hospital but died from her injuries.

Two other pedestrians, an 18-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man were treated for minor injuries.

Police have charged a 19-year-old Nulsen man with manslaughter, failing to stop and ensure assistance and failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.
