An easyJet plane, flying to Gatwick, London, was on a taxiway preparing for takeoff when it collided with a Boeing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands.
Passengers were onboard both the aircraft when the collision occurred and were evacuated back into the airport terminal. According to Metro.co.uk, passengers said the easyJet A320 became 'lodged' into a KLM 737-800 which was ready to leave for Madrid. Witnesses said both aircraft have been damaged in the accident.
One passenger on board the easyJet flight tweeted and wrote: 'My easyJet flight from Amsterdam to London just literally backed up INTO another plane. Our wing is lodged in a KLM tail. We're stuck on the plane while they're investigating'. While another Twitter user added: 'In Schiphol Amsterdam airport a @KLM and an @easyJet plane crashed into each other at the gate pushback'.
Confirming the collision, a spokesperson for easyJet said: "Passengers have now disembarked into the terminal where they have been provided with updates and refreshment vouchers. The flight is now due to be operated by a replacement aircraft. An investigation has been launched in line with procedure to understand what happened."
