Paris Jackson is resting at home following a brief hospitalisation that generated concerns for her welfare.

Earlier today, gossip website TMZ reported that Paris Jackson, the 20-year-old-daughter of late performer Michael Jackson, has been placed on a 5150 hold.

A 5150 hold is the name given to a period of involuntary hospitalisation administered to someone with mental illness who may pose a danger to themselves.

According to TMZ’s initial reports, “family sources” reported that Jackson had attempted to slit her wrists in response to the fallout from the controversial documentary Leaving Neverland.

However, Jackson soon took to Twitter to rubbish these claims, sharing TMZ’s report on Twitter by writing “fuck you you fucking liars”, and responding “lies lies lies omg and more lies” to a since-deleted Tweet.

In a statement given to People, a representative for Paris Jackson confirmed that while she did indeed receive medical attention, it was for a matter completely unrelated to what was first reported.

“Paris had an accident this morning that required medical treatment,” the source told People. “She is currently resting at home and doing fine.”

While TMZ is facing backlash from its initial report, People does note that a public information officer with the Los Angeles Police Department revealed that police were called to Jackson’s address to respond to calls of an attempted suicide.

This news happens to come just weeks after initial premiere of Leaving Neverland, which focuses around claims of child sex abuse made against Michael Jackson, giving particular attention to the allegations made by Jimmy Safechuck and Brisbane-born Wade Robson.

Following the documentary’s premiere back in January, the Jackson estate called it nothing but a “tabloid character assassination”, while Jackson’s music has been dropped from radio airwaves around the world, and his appearance on The Simpsons being removed from streaming services in recent weeks.

Paris Jackson broke her silence on the documentary earlier this week, taking to Twitter to say it’s ‘not her role’ to defend her father.

“There’s nothing i can say that hasn’t already been said in regards to defense,” Paris explained, stating her cousin Taj “is doing a perfect job on his own and I support him.”

“But that’s not my role,” she continued. “I’m just tryna get everyone to chill out and go with the flow, be mellow and think about the bigger picture. That’s me.”
