Opera Software has announced that the latest beta of Opera for Android has added support for the bitcoin and TRON blockchains. Until now, the Crypto Wallet only had support for ethereum and ERC-tokens. The update also includes experimental integration of Web 3 which lets websites request and receive addresses and for users to make transactions in bitcoin. The move makes the cryptocurrency much more accessible to those who don’t want to jump through technical hoops.

Most people have heard of bitcoin with it being the first blockchain-based decentralised cryptocurrency, TRON however, is a new cryptocurrency that’s listed 10th in terms of market cap. Opera’s implementation will display both TRX and TRC10 token balances and allow users to send and receive from either balance and access their transaction history.

The whole definition around what constitutes Web 3 has been quite fluffly, but the Web3 Foundation narrows it down to “technologies and applications in the fields of decentralized web software protocols, particularly those which utilize modern cryptographic methods to safeguard decentralization, to the benefit and for the stability of the Web 3 ecosystem.”

With the inclusion of more cryptocurrencies inside of Crypto Wallet, Opera takes yet another step in the direction of removing barriers to entry. As Opera helps clear the path towards the world of Web 3, it won’t be surprising if other browser vendors such as Mozilla, Google, and Microsoft eventually add similar features to their browsers as demand grows.
