DALLAS -- The Red River Showdown is back, and it's the type of matchup this storied rivalry deserves. While No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 11 Texas lead the Big 12 in points per game, it was the defenses that showed up early in this one. By the second half, though, both offenses started to break out the big plays. Oklahoma leads 20-17 at the end of the third quarter.
Oklahoma's big play came with a little trickery on a flea flicker from quarterback Jalen Hurts to receiver CeeDee Lamb, who made some brilliant open-field moves to give his team a 17-10 lead. However, Texas has found some much-needed offensive life of its own with the help of running back Roschon Johnson. The Longhorns have struggled to run today, but Johnson has 94 of Texas' 104 yards on the ground. Most of those have come on two big plays, but he and quarterback Sam Ehlinger have the two touchdowns for the Horns on the day.The other big story? Oklahoma's problems in the red zone. On five trips, the Sooners have 13 points, one touchdown, and two turnovers -- both of which were on Hurts. That's why this game is as close as it is.
