Maintaining the traffic on NH 766 in the Bandipur forest region is important for all of north Kerala, not just Wayanad. Hence, the public should work united for the purpose, said M.K. Raghavan, MP.
Opening a civic convention demanding the restoration of traffic on the stretch in Kozhikode on Sunday, the MP said that the issue has been brought to the attention of the Karnataka government many times, but the higher officials there were adamant on their stand.
He said the plan for an alternative route was unscientific as it would increase the distance between Sulthan Bathery and Gonikoppa by five times.
Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, who presided over the convention, said that an all-party delegation would meet with the Chief Minister of Karnataka and the Prime Minister to discuss the issue. There are so many national highways that pass through wildlife sanctuaries. None of them have these kind of restrictions, he said.
Representatives of various political parties and merchant bodies took part in the convention.
