Police have charged a man with murder after a "vicious attack" that resulted in the death of a 31-year-old man in Lurnea overnight.
Emergency services were called to a park at Lurnea about 4:45pm on Sunday after neighbours reported a scuffle between two people.
The 31-year-old man was found unresponsive in the park and despite frantic attempts from police performing CPR, he was pronounced dead at Liverpool Hospital.
A 34-year-old man was arrested at Liverpool Police Station on Monday afternoon and charged with murder.
He will appear at Liverpool Local Court on Tuesday.
Leanne Peters said she heard dogs in the park and saw the police emergency lights last night.
She went outside and saw a body laying on the ground
"They were trying to resuscitate him, but he died there in the park," she said.
"I was at the hospital with his mum [last night]. As a parent I wouldn't know what I would do.
"This street is so quiet. How could people do that to someone so helpless?"
Acting Commander Paul Albury said police believed the attack was targeted.
"It certainly was a vicious attack," he said.
"And it was certainly in our view a targeted attack on a specific person, so this is not something that was a random attack on the street.
