Kerry O’Keeffe’s radical overhaul to ‘make Test cricket sexy again’

O’Keeffe’s comments come in response to the refusal of India’s cricket board to play day-night Test matches, specifically at Adelaide Oval currently.

Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle explained to Fox Cricket after the second day’s play on Friday that India was worried about playing a pink-ball Test in Adelaide as they are not accustom to the newer format and weren’t as confident against Australia.

O’Keeffe is just one of many pundits to voice his frustration at India’s refusal to adopt the pink ball. And he says the powerful BCCI will need to get on board with the changes sooner rather than later, for the good of the game.

O’Keeffe believes four of Australia’s home Tests each year should become day-night, and he also wants matches reduced to four days and limited overs.

“There should be others (day-night matches) too; I think the Boxing Day Test should be day-night, I think four of the five Tests should be day-night. I’m a firm believer,” O’Keeffe told Fox Cricket.

“The only problem is the pink ball isn’t good enough, and dew. We want to reciprocate to play day-night Tests overseas and dew is a factor in most countries.

“If we can get that right ... maybe indoor stadiums are the answer? I just think Test cricket’s future is at night.

Australia will play a day-night Test in Brisbane against Sri Lanka in January. Adelaide has previously hosted pink-ball games and Cricket Australia has committed to making Adelaide a regular day-night venue in the future.
