Cuban president supports journalists' statement against IPYS manipulationHAVANA, Oct 14 (ACN) President Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed on Twitter his support for a statement recently issued by the Association of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) to denounce the Press and Society Institute (IPYS) for manipulation.Diaz-Canel described the statement through which UPEC denounces the ploy perpetrated by IPYS against some of its members by encouraging them to participate in a supposed contest of chronicles on Cuban issues.UPEC denounced last Friday that IPYS manipulated journalists from public media to sponsor a new campaign against the Cuban public system, which carries a counterrevolutionary political sign. The statement noted that after the instigation, that institution announced with great fanfare an ecumenical list of finalists that includes articles originally published in public and private media, among the latter some with an editorial line openly antisocialist and aligned with Washington's policies against Cuba's government. That campaign has "shameful echoes in the media that reach as far as to suggest that UPEC accept money from organizations with blood on their hands and use the rhetoric of freedom of expression for ideological purposes and as a political stronghold, the text added. The Organization of American States (OAS), the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and George Soros' Open Society Foundations (OSF), "a well-known driver of global chaos from Ukraine to the Balkans, are those who pay and rule at this institution because they are the main donors, says the article. The statement also made clear that UPEC has very definite political and ethical bases; it holds different opinions, but it does not agree with the NED, the OAS or the OSF, "in line with the US government's strategies to suffocate our country".

"The UPEC strongly denounces this manipulation and reaffirms that the most important thing for our organization is to persist with our project of transforming the public media system, for more socialism and for more Revolution," the note states.
