"Rescue crews have extracted the final #GoldenRay crew member safely. All crew members are accounted for," the Coast Guard posted on Twitter.

The four South Korean nationals had been trapped after the ship tilted onto its side on Saturday night near the port of Brunswick, in the state of Georgia, according to the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

On Monday the Coast Guard had been working to rescue the remaining crew members in what they said was a "slow, but safe process." They are now all with emergency services and receiving medical care.

The South Korean company that owns the Golden Ray said it was grateful to everyone involved in the rescue. Hyundai Glovis said the rescue was "deeply appreciated."

The statement added that the company's staff was also "fully engaged" with agencies that are focused on limiting any damage to the environment.

The Golden Ray flipped on its side and caught fire as it left Brunswick, Georgia, with more than 4000 vehicles inside. The flames were extinguished, but the huge ship was listing at nearly 90 degrees.

The 200-metre vehicle carrier is now stuck in the shipping channel, closing one of the busiest US seaports for shipping automobiles.

Three crew members were rescued from one room. The fourth was in a separate compartment.

All four were described as alert and in relatively good condition. They were taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

Twenty people onboard the Golden Ray were rescued after the vessel overturned on Saturday. The cause of the accident was not yet clear.
