Cline Dion regularly makes headlines with what she wears, but the legendary musician still doesn’t consider herself a style icon.
“I love fashion a lot, definitely. For me, fashion is art. Its a way of expressing yourself,” Dion, 51, told Elle in her June cover story for the magazine. “When I put something on, I play. I dont take myself seriously. I kind of, like, borrow a character. But to be considered a fashion icon?
Continued the “Power of Love” singer: “I dont know, I just do one day at a time, do the best I can, feel the way that I want to feel. Thats the most important thing.”
Indeed, it’s not uncommon for Dion to get emotional over fashion. At the Valentino Haute Couture show in Paris back in January, she wept as models walked to Roberta Flack’s “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face” her wedding song with late husband Ren Anglil, who passed away in 2016. “I didnt want to cry. I was worried Mr. Valentino was looking at my reaction. To be honest, it felt like I was making a scene, but I was overwhelmed,” she told the publication.
And at the Armani Priv show that same week, her excited front-row reactions to some of the looks on the catwalk inspired social media memes aplenty.
In the piece, for which Dion posed in an array of dramatic couture outfits from the likes of Chanel, Dior and Givenchy, the star also teased her upcoming new album. “I had a great time when I recorded 20 years ago, but now I really feel like I can speak up,” she explained. “If Im not part of my own project, what am I doing here? Crying at Valentino and spending money on clothes?”
