A second Queenslander has died in hospital from coronavirus, taking the country’s death toll from the virus to nine.
Queensland Health confirmed the 68-year-man passed away on the Darling Downs.
It’s understood the man had a serious underlying medical condition before contracting the virus.
“Queensland Health offers its sincere condolences to his family,” a Qld Health spokesperson said in a statement a short time ago.
The mans family remains in isolation as close contacts.
Its the second death from COVID-19 in Queensland after a 77-year-old Sunshine Coast woman with an underlying medical condition passed away in Sydney.
The sad news comes after another 46 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Queensland today, bringing thestate total to 443.
Queensland Health says the majority of cases are from patients who have travelled overseas, or have had direct contact with a confirmed case who had travelled overseas.
Contact tracing is underway for the new cases.
On the Gold Coast alone, 87 people have been diagnosed with the illness to date.
