The Beverly Hills 90210 revival BH90120 has hit a bit of a snag.

As reported by Variety, the showrunner Patrick Sean Smith and several senior writers have departed the show. Although there are multiple rumours regarding behind-the-scenes disputes and whatnot, no official statement has been released.

Fox have hired a new showrunner in Paul Sciarrotta, who is also a member of the writing staff. The show is still on track for an August 7 premiere.

Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Gabrielle Carteris, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, and Brian Austin Green are all returning from the original, but instead of playing characters, they are playing heightened versions of themselves. Basically, it's going to be super meta.

Beverly Hills, 90210 originally ran for 10 seasons between 1990 and 2000, before spin-off 90210 premiered in 2008 and ran for five series.

The official synopsis for this one goes like this: "Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Shannen, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it's time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running.

"But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself.

"What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?"
