The enforcement wing of the Commercial Taxes has unearthed tax evasion by commercial property owners and AC bus operators.

During recent inspections by the officials, they found suppressed turnover of 216.76 crore involving GST of 16.57 crore. GST is payable on AC bus tickets at 5%. Officers inspected 26 AC bus operators and identified suppressed turnover of 174.4 crore and tax of 8.72 crore. The bus operators have collected taxes from passengers and understated the turnover in the returns and thereby failed to pay the collected tax, said a release from Commissioner of Commercial Taxes Bengaluru.

The wing inspected 48 commercial property owners and identified tax suppression of 7.85 crore on 42.36 crore of commercial rent received. GST is payable at 18% on commercial property rental income. Many of the property owners have collected taxes from tenants but failed to pay the same to the government, said the release.
