The GVMC has proposed 70 projects with an estimated expenditure of 2,909 crore under the Smart City mission, Municipal Commissioner G. Srijana said on Thursday.
As many as 22 projects wroth 260 crore have been completed and 26 more with an outlay of 577 crore are under progress. The works include 24x7 water supply, sewerage, smart streets, green space development, shore protection and beachfront development, she said while participating in the Independence Day celebrations
Referring to the cost sharing, Ms. Srijana said the State and Central governments have allocated 500 crore each and funds would be mobilised through various means to complete the remaining projects.
The government has released 349 crore. Smart City projects have been undertaken after the city emerged eighth in the first all-India Smart Cities Challenge in 2016.

In 2017-18 fiscal year, 25 projects under pan city and 26 under Area Based Development have been proposed and 17 of them have been completed with an expenditure of 111.68 crore, Ms. Srijana said. Under Convergence, two projects worth .20.5 crore have been completed and seven under progress.
Project on beach erosion and beachfront development at a cost of .150 crore and .240 crore respectively will be undertaken as part of the A.P. Disaster Recovery Project with the World Bank aid. The project reports are being prepared, she said.
Referring to drinking water supply the GVMC Commissioner said 60.3 MGD of water was being made available when compared to the required 82 MGD.
Reiterating that the GVMC has hogged limelight by bagging the fifth and third ranks at national levels in the Swachh Survekshan Survey in 2016 and 2017, she said an action plan was being implemented to improve the rank in the next survey. She thanked sanitation workers for their efforts to keep the city clean.
The corporation also made its mark by winning the first prize in Social aspects category of Smart Campus project, she said.

In total, 171 stafff rom various wings were given away certificates of merit. Superintendent engineers Pallamraju, Siva Prasada Raju, Examiner of Accounts Mangapathi Rao, Assistant Director, Horticulture, Damodara Rao were among those who received awards from GVMC Special Officer V. Vinay Chand.
