PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Justin Rose made his way to the top of the leaderboard late on Thursday and remains in the top spot on Friday despite the Pebble Beach course toughening up. Rose finished with a 1-under 70 on Friday, maintaining his clubhouse lead at 7 under but not distancing himself much from the rest of the field. Tiger Woods is also in for the day, but a 1-over 72 has him seven back of the lead and even through two rounds at the 2019 U.S. Open.
The afternoon groups are now on the course looking to make a move at Rose with Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy among those in contention. McIlroy's had the most success to this point, though no one has caught up with Rose as Round 2 play nears its conclusion. Back-to-back defending champion Brooks Koepka sits three back of Rose and is also in the clubhouse, most certainly in position to make a run on Moving Day.
