Bus shelters will almost double across the capital this year with the introduction of new and modern air conditioned shelters on various roads of the city.
The Department of Transport (DoT) said on Sunday that they are introducing 100 new and modern air-conditioned shelters in Abu Dhabi during 2018 as part of the bigger project to provide modern shelters across the emirate.
70 of the new shelters are already in place on various roads and being used, while the remaining 30 will be in place by end of 2018. The project will cost Dh35 million.
The DoT officials told reporters during a media tour of the new bus shelters that they will be introducing 600 new air conditioned shelters across the emirate by 2020, including 400 shelters in Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafar region and 200 shelters in Al Ain.
Currently there are 130 old bus shelters in Abu Dhabi. And the DoT said it has also upgraded these old facilities including maintaining and replacing their air conditioners, installing in lights and giving them new shapes so as to meet the new standards.
