Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said the immersion of Durga’s idol should be done from 3:00pm to 8:00pm on the day of Bijoya Dashami, the last day of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, reports BSS.
The minister made the announcement at his ministry’s conference room in the capital after a meeting on the arrangement of law and order for Puja festivities in the country.
The government has undertaken fool-proof security measures to ensure smooth festivities during the forthcoming Durga Puja, the minister said.
“We have banned the use of firecrackers starting next week. Law enforcement will be deployed for five days from the first day on 26 September at all Puja mandaps until the immersion on 30 September,” he said.
Asaduzzaman Khan urged the Puja committees to install close circuit cameras and metal detectors at their mandaps, adding, “Any kind of untoward situation and hooliganism will be dealt with an iron hand.”
He said the government would deploy some 16,800 ansars at the puja mandaps to provide security alongside law-enforcement agencies including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Besides, the intelligence agencies have been asked to gear up their vigilance in and around the city.
A total of 30,077 puja mandaps will be set up by the Hindu community across the country this year, while 231 mandaps will be set up in Dhaka city, he added.
